Amazon-Raised Up Sky

The film follows artist Joseph Michael as he explores our physical, biological, and cultural link to trees, through conversations with scientists, artists and indigenous leaders.

Amazon - Raised Up Sky, a short documentary following New Zealand artist Joseph Michael
in the early stages of creating his groundbreaking virtual reality artwork around the magnificent trees of the Amazon rainforest.
2020 forced us to begin the project remotely. Instead of travelling to Brazil as planned, we pivoted to manage a remote team
who travelled deep into the rainforest to scan the trees, and we conducted virtual interviews with leaders in and around the Amazon.
The documentary featured abbreviated conversations with these phenomenal and passionate figures: indigenous leaders, foremost scholars in plant physiology,
photographers with unparalleled legacies of documenting this environment, and many other thinkers and leaders
who have dedicated their lives to understanding the Amazon from the inside out.
